Tangalle is a laid-back stretch of coast on the south, with long, uncrowded beaches and fewer crowds than Mirissa or Unawatuna. Bays such as Goyambokka, Mawella and Medaketiya are popular for relaxing and swimming when the sea is calm. At Rekawa, conservation groups run guided night walks to see sea turtles nesting. Nearby sights include the Hummanaya blowhole at Kudawella and the ancient rock temple of Mulkirigala. It is a good base to combine with Yala, Udawalawe or Mirissa.
