The full cultural circuit, starting with Sri Lanka's first capital at Anuradhapura and ending in Kandy. Two nights near Sigiriya mean you can climb the rock early and still see Polonnaruwa or a safari without rushing.

Day 1: Airport to Anuradhapura
Drive north to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's first great capital. If time allows, visit the Sri Maha Bodhi sacred tree and the Ruwanwelisaya stupa in the evening.

Day 2: Anuradhapura to Sigiriya
Explore the ruins in the morning, including Jetavanaramaya and the Abhayagiri monastery. Then drive to Dambulla for the cave temple, and on to Sigiriya.

Day 3: Sigiriya Rock and Polonnaruwa
Climb Sigiriya Rock early. In the afternoon, visit Polonnaruwa, or take a jeep safari in Minneriya if elephants are gathering.

Day 4: Sigiriya to Kandy
Drive to Kandy with a stop at a spice garden near Matale. In the evening, visit the Temple of the Tooth and, if you like, see a Kandyan dance show.

Day 5: Kandy to the airport
Walk around Kandy Lake and see the Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya. Then drive to the airport, with optional stops on the way.
